In his 40 years as festival orginizer Michael has seen the highs and lows of it all. Now at the ripe old age of 73 he has said its time to hand the reigns over to his daughter Emily and allow the next generation of Eavis’s to live on the farm.

Glastonbury festival goers were expacting to miss out on 2011 but with the olympics in london in 2012 it seems a perfect opertunity to let the place lay fallow for a year.

Although Emily will be officially running things Michael has said he will still have some input, all be it a less hands on one.

“I still feel I have an important role to play. Even if I go, I’ll worry about the drains, the rubbish, the recycling. There will be a gradual process of her and Nick taking it over.” – Michael Eavis
